As the Ondo State plans an international summit on capacity enhancement in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), the Journalists International Forum For Migration (JIFORM) has urged the state to key into the decent job offer being coordinated by a member of the African Union Labour Migration Advisory Committee, Dr Reverend Asie Kabukie Ocansey.

Ajibola Abayomi, the President of JIFORM gave the advice during a courtesy visit to the Ondo State Head of Service (HoS), Pastor John Adeyemo on Tuesday.

The technical session on the diaspora matters with the HoS had inputs from the Chief Executive Officer of the Diaspora Innovation Institute (DII) Prince Akinwale Ojomo and the Director General, Ondo State, Public Service Training Institute (PSTI). Mr Ekpo Jide.

Ocansey, a member of the AU committee from Ghana, is an international labour expert with over 30-year experience training thousands of the youths in Sierra Leone in readiness for placement on decent job abroad as approved by the Sierra Leonean government

According to Ajibola, the job was available to bridge the gap of unemployment for youths that were interested in care giver service, housekeeping and others devoid of abuses and exploitation, however, he was quick to say that the recruitment would be in compliance with the labour laws in Nigeria.

“As an indigene of this state, I am challenged to make the over 20,000 overseas decent jobs possible through Ocansey’s effective structure in line with the Nigerian laws and processes” Ajibola said.

Ojomo commended the state for setting up the PSTI at Ilaramokin saying the facilities at the institute were good enough to host the world.

The DII CEO said the Ondo state was at the vintage position to benefit from the over $25 billion annual remittances from the diasporas giving her continuous investment in human capacity.

Responding, Adeyemo said the state would continue investing in her citizens and would work with the Federal Government on migration matters.

According the HOS, the governor of the state. Arakurin Rotimi Akeredolu through his agenda was consolidating on human development agenda.

Speaking, the DG of the PSTI, stated that the institute was also working to drive investment through capacity building adding that with the available high-level facilities, all the courses due for accreditation at the institute would be fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education in due course.

Jide said the pre-proposal for summit before the HoS when considered would be implemented as planned.
