Journalists from several countries will participate in a virtual Migration Dialogue organized by the Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM) on August 10 at 3 PM via Zoom.
The seminar will focus on the topic “Migration Trends: Threats and Opportunities” and will feature as guest speaker, Paola Pace, the Deputy Chief of Mission for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Nigeria.
In a statement from London, JIFORM President Dr. Ajibola Abayomi said the seminar would involve media professionals and stakeholders from various countries with inputs also from the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) while the goodwill message would be delivered by Dr Qasim Akinreti, the Deputy Director, Voice of Nigeria (VON)
Ajibola emphasized that the event is part of an ongoing capacity-building initiative for JIFORM members and journalists worldwide.
Concerned about the issues of irregular migration and human trafficking, JIFORM was established in 2019 by journalists dedicated to covering migration across continents.
The body is a non-profit organization comprising over 300 journalists and volunteers globally, headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria. The network facilitated the inaugural African Migration Summit in partnership with the Nekotech Center of Excellence in Accra, Ghana, in 2021, the West African Media Migration Summit in Togo in 2021, National Migration Summit and an Intercontinental Migration Summit with the Medgar Evers College, City University, Brooklyn, New York, from November 2-4, 2022.
Additionally, JIFORM has held its annual international migration summit, known as the JIFORM Global Migration Summit, with the 3rd and 4th editions in Canada in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
