President of the Journalists International Forum for Migration, (JIFORM) comprising over 300 journalists covering migration issues across the continents, Ajibola Abayomi has stated that the 2021 Global Summit being organized by the body will improve the capacity of legislators and other professionals in Nigeria on migration matters.

He made the comment on Tuesday when he met with the Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon Bamidele Oleyelogun alongside other dignitaries at the state capital, Akure.

The Speaker while responding said the assembly was ready to identify with any programme that would facilitate capacity building for his colleagues.

Oleyelogun  directed the House Committee on Diaspora matters to report to him on the proposal for the summit said  the event would be accorded the priority it deserved.

Also at the meeting the Senior Special Assistant to Ekiti State Governor on Diaspora Affairs Mr. Femi Odere solicited the support of the speaker who is the chairman of conference of South West Speakers of state assemblies for the programmes of Diaspora Focal Point Officers in the region.

The visit came on the heels of the highly  2-day regional summit of Southwest Diaspora Focal Point Officers which was held in Ado Ekiti on June 28-29 with the theme “Harnessing Southwest Diaspora remittances for Regional Development.”

The SSA who also doubles as the spokesman for Southwest Diaspora Focal Point Officers, in his address, said he came to seek audience with the Speaker and members of the state’s House of Assembly Committee on Diaspora Affairs to intimate them of the communiqué and resolutions that came out of the summit with a view “to finding regional solutions to certain problems and challenges that can mitigate regional development.”

The speaker promised to rally support from his peers in the region for progress regarding diaspora issues.

Present at the meet were Hon. Tomide Akinribido, chairman of the state’s House Committee on  International Relations and Diaspora Affairs; Hon. Favour Tomomewo, a member of the House Committee and also chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs; and Yemi Akintomide, member of JIFORM in Ondo State..
